BOZCAADA IS THE ISLAND OF TROY (Haluk Şahin, journalist and writer from Bozcaada)
"Bozcaada (Tenedos), down the ages, is described as the Island in front of Troy,
with regard to witness of Homer.
The discoverers have always been searching for the "lost" Troy in front Tenedos. And eventually they found it.
Troy which Schlieman explored in "Hisarlık" is really in the opposite of the Island.
To celebrate these times, Homer readings are organized every year on the beach looking towards to Troy. Bozcaada in terms of history and geography is the Island of Troy.
Aristotle wrote that there was an important traffic of boatmen between the Island and the opposite shore in the 5th century B.C.
It seems that he had lots of visitors.
As if he was waiting for that: if the father of Hector, father of Paris, father in law of Helen, wise king of Troy Priamos came back to the World,
he would feel like at home here. The sea is the same sea, the wind is the same wind; milky way like a blue scarf with its stars stretching on the sky at night is the same milky way…
When looking to the south during the day, an island can still be seen from Cape Baba: It is the Lesbos Island (Mytilene) of Sappho.
On the left side is Troas, the Little Asia, Anatolia located. Here is the Gate of Aegean, Aegean of all time…"
